The first major October payment is the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit on October 5, 2026. Ontario Trillium Benefit and Advanced Canada Workers Benefit follow on October 9. Canada Disability Benefit is October 15, Canada Child Benefit is October 20, and CPP plus OAS are scheduled for October 28.
Canadians are not searching for another vague explanation of a benefit. They want the date, the name that might appear in their account and the step to take if nothing arrives. This page puts every major October date in one place.
October makes that harder than usual because several programs land in the same month. The list below combines the Government of Canada calendars in date order. It is a schedule—not a promise that every reader qualifies for every deposit.
The scheduled date for the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit, formerly the GST/HST credit.
October 2026 benefit payment calendar
| Date | Payment | Who should pay attention |
|---|---|---|
| October 5 | Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit | Eligible tax filers who previously knew this quarterly payment as the GST/HST credit. |
| October 9 | Ontario Trillium Benefit | Eligible Ontario residents receiving one or more OTB components. |
| October 9 | Advanced Canada Workers Benefit | Eligible workers receiving advance payments of the Canada Workers Benefit. |
| October 15 | Canada Disability Benefit | Eligible working-age adults approved for the federal disability benefit. |
| October 20 | Canada Child Benefit | Eligible families with children under 18. |
| October 23 | Newfoundland and Labrador Disability Benefit | Eligible residents of Newfoundland and Labrador. |
| October 28 | Canada Pension Plan | CPP retirement, disability, survivor and children’s benefit recipients. |
| October 28 | Old Age Security | OAS, Guaranteed Income Supplement, Allowance and Allowance for the Survivor recipients. |
| October 29 | Veteran disability pension | Eligible Veterans Affairs Canada recipients. |
Employment Insurance is not included because EI follows an individual reporting and payment cycle rather than one Canada-wide monthly date. Provincial programs not listed here can have separate calendars.
Why the October 5 payment is getting the attention
The Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit is the renamed and expanded successor to the GST/HST credit. The October 5 deposit is quarterly, and the amount is based on the CRA’s calculation for your household—not on how much you spent at a grocery store.
If that is the payment you came for, our detailed Groceries and Essentials Benefit guide explains the benefit-year income basis, annual maximums and the reason an eligible person with a small annual entitlement may not see an October payment.
Our Canada Child Benefit guide has the current maximums, Ontario top-up and missing-payment steps.
Do not add these dates together
A long calendar can accidentally look like one giant government payout. It is not. Each program has its own age, income, residency, disability, family or contribution requirements. CPP is generally linked to contributions. OAS and GIS have different rules. The CCB depends on family circumstances and tax filing. CRA credits can change after a reassessment.
Benefit headlines often lead with the largest possible number and leave the eligibility rules until the end. We think the honest order is the reverse: identify the program, confirm the date, open the official account notice and only then put the amount into your budget.
When is an October payment actually late?
The Government of Canada says payments can take a few days to arrive, and mailed cheques can take longer than direct deposit. Its general benefits calendar says to wait five to 10 business days before contacting the program. A scheduled issue date is not a promise that every bank posts the deposit at the same hour.
The CRA gives a more specific split for its programs: wait five working days for CCB and 10 working days for the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit, OTB and ACWB. Before calling, check the relevant CRA My Account or My Service Canada Account, confirm banking details and look for a notice explaining a reassessment or redirected payment.
Four checks to make now
- Confirm which agency runs the program. CRA and Service Canada use different account portals for some updates.
- Check direct deposit separately. Changing banking information for one organization may not update every federal payment automatically.
- Read the benefit notice. It can explain a lower amount, a zero payment or money applied to another balance.
- Budget from the confirmed amount. A previous deposit is not proof that the next one will be identical.
